Program Overview
The Northern Narratives Initiative is a 3-5 month virtual mentorship and publishing program launched by the Northern Writers Forum (NWF), in collaboration with Open Arts World. It is designed to support emerging writers from Northern Nigeria working across poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction.
Through one-on-one mentorship, structured check-ins, feedback cycles, and guided writing exercises, participants strengthen their craft and build sustainable creative practices.
Program Structure
The initiative runs in two key phases:
- Mentorship & Development (April 21 - July 21, 2025): participants work closely with mentors to curate and refine a strong body of writing.
- Editorial & Publishing (July 22 - September 21, 2025): manuscripts are polished, laid out, and prepared for publication as mini chapbooks.
Why It Matters
- Amplifies underrepresented Northern Nigerian voices in wider literary conversations.
- Builds creative excellence through mentorship, editorial support, and accountability.
- Strengthens literary community by connecting writers, mentors, and publishers.
- Creates tangible outcomes through published chapbooks and public recognition.
